Stan Lee tells the (Dis)Associated Press that he writes characters that tackle bias.

As with a lot of things that Stan Lee says, you must first remember that he is, above all, a promoter.
"The thing I had in mind was to make it a story against bigotry of all sorts, because here were people who were certainly different than everybody else, but they were good, they were trying to do the right thing,"
Being that he was born Stanley Lieber, he would know firsthand about bigotry, growing up as a Jew during a very anti-Semitic time in the world's history.
"But as so often happens in real life, if you have a different religion, a different country, a different sexual orientation, whatever the difference is, people — not all people, but it happens — are going to dislike you, distrust you, fear you."
Note that Stan Lee said nothing about the involvement of Jack "King" Kirby in the development of these characters.

Jack Kirby created most of the Marvel characters, while Stan Lee; the MASTER WORDSMITH, made them come to life through his witty dialogue. The two are linked forever by the characters that they made popular.

But for Stan "The Man" Lee to take FULL credit for creating the great Marvel Universe is wrong. Anyone inside of the comic book business knows this to be true.
This is just another instance of Stan Lee becoming "Stan Me".
